Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS)
Widely used for assessing injuries in motor vehicle accidents. Clearly
not linear – Faigin [1976] shows average societal costs per fatality and
injury in 1975 US$.

AIS may not be linear, but Injury Severity Score and Log Number of Patients
seems to have a good linear relationship [Baker and O’Neill, 1976].
