QuakeAUS is a stochastic earthquake loss model for 4 areas of Australia :
- 300 km radius around Sydney ,
- 300 km radius around Melbourne ,
- 300 km radius around Adelaide and
- 300 km radius around Perth .
The model generates 50,000 years of earthquakes based on the best available seismic and geological data for the local area.
The model simulates earthquake losses for three portfolio types
- residential structures
- contents.
- combined building and contents
Residential structures include domestic and strata, for domestic buildings construction type is considered as double brick construction is more venerable to damage and for strata, building age relative to changes in building codes in 1980.
Property losses associated with each earthquake are calculated for imported portfolio data (either at a Postcode or Cresta Zone level) using damage relationships calculated for Australia. Losses are calculated on an individual earthquake basis or as annual aggregates and expressed in dollar terms. Plots show losses as either Annual Exceedance Probabilities or Average Recurrence Intervals over all ICA zones.
The Earthquake Model has 4 modules (similar to HailAUS)
Hazard Occurrence Module (determines earthquake magnitude, epicentre and focal depth)
Exposure Model (spatial distridution of residential portfoilo)
Vunerability Module (Integrates earthquake and exposure characteristics based on loss curves created from the Australian experience)
Analysis Module (Transforms results into probabilistic formats)
Loss information is provided on an Earthquake or Postcode basis.
Statistical and summary files are also included for initial analysis.
