Volcanic activity
A few volcanoes that I'm interested in, from previous or current research. I hope this will get to be updated throughout my doctorate as I work on more volcanoes...
Volcán de Colima, Mexico The Colima volcanic complex consists of two southward-younging volcanoes. The historically active Volcán de Colima to the south is a youthful stratovolcano constructed within a 5km wide caldera, breached to the south. (Sources: Universidad de Colima) |
Mount Fuji, Japan, is the tallest mountain in Japan and the symbol of peace. The volcano is studded with more than 100 parasitic cones and constructed above a group of overlapping volcanoes.

Mount Ruapehu, New Zealand Ruapehu volcano is the highest and most recently erupted volcano in the North Island. The last eruption at Ruapehu was in 1995-1996, causing the closure of flank skifields during both ski seasons. |
Mt St Helens, USA Prior to 1980, Mount St. Helens formed a conical, youthful volcano. During the 1980 eruption the upper 400 m of the summit was removed by slope failure, leaving a 2 x 3.5 km horseshoe-shaped crater now partially filled by a lava dome.

In 2000, abnormally high earthquake activity was noted ~15km below the volcano. This awakening didn't result in an eruption but prompted research into the volcanic hazard and risk.
